Floriana suffered a second successive defeat as a goal by Thaylor Aldama handed Gzira United a narrow win at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
A win which puts Gzira on level points with Valletta in ninth place oin 14 points, two ahead of Mosta and Santa Lucia. Leading the Maroons, for the first time was Andrew Cohen following the resignation of Darren Abdilla last week.
Floriana, on the other hand, remain three points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans, just one ahead of Sliema Wanderers.
The Maroons scored the all-important goal one minute from the end of the first half when Gabriel Bohrer Mentz sent the ball through and following a deflection, it fell at the feet of Thaylor Aldama who lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Kitanov.
