Qrendi kept the pace with leaders Mtarfa in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they defeated defeated Santa Venera Lightnings 6-0 at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.
Larens Vella handed Qrendi a two-goal lead with goals on the 23rd and 51st. Brandon Bray extended the lead on the 58th and Dario Borg made it 4-0 and three minutes later, Bray added another. Dario Borg scored a sixth goal on the 81st.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s registered a 3-1 win over Pembroke Athleta in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Keith Muscat put the Saints ahead five minutes from the end of the first half but just before half-time, Maverick Cassar equalised. An own goal restored the lead for Birzebbuga on the 76th and Samuel Saldanha sealed the issue with a goal two minutes later.
Kalkara United registered an impressive 4-2 win over Rabat Ajax at the Sirens Stadium. Josmar Sammut opened the score after just five minutes and five minutes from the end of the first half, Jaden Camilleri made it 2-0. Camilleri scored again one minute in the second half and although Rabat reduced the gap with a brace by Clyde Bouvet on the 60th and 83rd, Jordie Bajada sealed the issue with a fourth goal two minutes in added time.
In another match, Xghajra Tornados defeated Mdina Knights 4-0 thanks to goals by Ryan Tabone on the 19th and Nestor Luis Silva a minute later, Carl Magro on the 89th and Jean Paul Baldacchino two minutes in added time.
Mtarfa lead the way with 34 points, followed by Qrendi on 31, Birzebbuga 27, Rabat and Xghajra 21, Mellieha and Pembroke 17, Mqabba 16, Sta. Venera 14, Kalkara 12, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.
