University of Malta ACJ Group hand Luxol Futsal first defeat

University of Malta ACJ Group finished the first round of the Enemed Futsal League with maximum points after beating champions Luxol St Andrew’s 2-1.

The Universitarians were in a class of their own throughout the game with Luxol, who lacked a number of players, being get caught by the opponents’ counter-attacks. The University of Malta surged ahead when it was Melvin Borg who received well from Guillherme Fonseca and beat Clint Mifsud with a powerful low shot. Luxol tied the score when Andre Ciancio beat keeper Ryan Scerri.In the second half, the game continued to maintain its intensity with the University players scoring what should have been the winning goal when it was Guillherme Fonseca who took the ball and advanced well to fire a strong shot.

University of Malta ACJ Group therefore finished the first phase of this league with maximum points from ten games with Luxol suffering the first defeat of the season.

Meanwhile the preliminary round of the E & L Futsal Trophy saw three teams reaching the next round of the competition.

The biggest victory was achieved by the Maltese Under-19 team as they beat Sliema Wanderers 10-5.

Mason Agius, Nathan David Balzan and Jamie Sultana scored a double each while Collin Sammut, Miguel Camilleri, Alex Sheldon Bellizzi and an own goal combined the score for their team. The Blues scored their goals through a hat-trick by Kevin Sammut and a double by Juan Poveda Morales.

Birżebbuġa St Peter’s beat Gżira United Santa Margerita 4-1 courtesy of Hamza Harrat, Armando Gjepali, Daniel Abdilla and an own goal with Christian Cutajar scoring a consolation goal for the Maroons.

ŽRQ Bormla defeated Marsaskala Futsal 6-1. Italo Jose dos Santos scored a hat-trick with Dylan Musu adding two more for the Cospicua side and Chris Cardona sealing the final score for his team. Craig Pickard scored the only goal for the Marsaskala side.
