IZIBET Amateur League: Mtarfa move nine points clear

Mtarfa moved nine points clear in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League as they defeated neighbours Rabat Ajax 4-0 at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.

Bydasser Sammut put George Magri’s side ahead on the 4th and GIanfranco Micallef doubled the score on the 15th. Josuel Spiteri made it 3-0 on the 34th and Kurt Borg scored a fourth goal four minutes from the end of the first half.

A brace by Luka Mijic handed Mellieha a fourth successive win as they registered a 2-0 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Sirens Stadium. Mijic opened the score on the 7th and doubled the score ten minutes in the second half.

Mqabba made it three wins in a row as they came from behind to beat Siggiewi 3-1 in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Andre Farrugia put Siggiewi ahead on the 9th but Ishmael Galea equalised on the 59th. Sam Kind handed Mqabba the lead on the 81st and Kurt Vella sealed the issue with a third goal two minutes later.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s beat Santa Venera Lightnings 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Samuel Saldanha scored twice on the 1st and 16th and Keith Muscat extended the lead six minutes in the second half. Richmond Baratuipre Hanson converted a penalty to reduce the gap on the 69th.

Kalkara United bounced back from the heavy defeat to Birzebbuga as they beat Mdina Knights 3-0 at the Luxol Stadium. Mattias Formosa put Kalkara ahead on the 15th and one minute from the end of the first half, Andrea Hammett doubled the score. Jaden Camilleri scored a third goal on the hour.

Mtarfa lead the way with 43 points, followed by Qrendi on 34, Birzebbuga 33, Xghajra 27, Mellieha 26, Mqabba 25, Rabat 24, Pembroke 20, Sta. Venera 17, Kalkara 15, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.
