Four places in the semi-finals will be at stake on Saturday as the quarter-finals of the IZIBET FA Trophy take centre stage.
The remaining teams in the competition are BOV Premier League leaders Floriana, second-placed Hamrun Spartans, holders Birkirkara, last year’s finalists Marsaxlokk along with Sliema Wanderers, Mosta, Gzira United and IZIBET Amateur League side Mgarr United.
At the Centenary Stadium, Gzira United take on Mgarr United.
The Maroons are currently joint-seventh in the Premier League while Mgarr have secured promotion to the Challenge League after winning Group B. In the previous rounds, Gzira United beat Fgura United 2-0 and Hibernians 1-0 while Mgarr United beat Msida St. Joseph 3-1 and Santa Lucia on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the end of the ninety minutes and a 3-3 draw after extra-time.
In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Marsaxlokk take on Floriana.
The Greens lead the BOV Premier League table with 51 points, two ahead of Hamrun, with the Southseasiders lying in fourth place on 33 points. The two teams met in December with Floriana winning 3-2.
In the previous rounds, Marsaxlokk beat Zejtun Corinthians 5-0 and Swieqi United 3-0 while Floriana defeated Naxxar Lions 2-0 and Zebbug Rangers 7-1.
At the National Stadium, holders Birkirkara take on Hamrun Spartans.
The Strips are currently sixth on 30 points while Hamrun are now second, two points behind Floriana. Birkirkara defeated Hamrun 3-0 in a league match but the Spartans registered a 4-0 win in the BOV Super Cup.
Birkirkara beat Attard 3-1 and Sirens 1-0 after extra-time to reach this stage while Hamrun Spartans defeated Lija Athletic and Gudja United with an identical 3-0 score.
In another quarter-final at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Mosta face Sliema Wanderers.
Mosta are currently fourth from bottom on 23 points while Sliema Wanderers lie comfortably in third place on 41 points. The Wanderers defeated Mosta 3-0 in the first round but the second round clash ended in a goalless draw.
To reach this stage, Mosta beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 5-1 and Valletta 2-1 while Sliema Wanderers defeated Marsaskala 3-0 and Balzan 1-0 after extra-time.
