Malta’s representatives in the UEFA club competitions have received a significant boost with the introduction of enhanced financial incentives ahead of their upcoming participation. This initiative is set to provide valuable support to all seven clubs as they proudly fly the Maltese flag in the European competitions.
In recent years, VisitMalta has supported the local football teams that take part in the UEFA competitions through a financial incentive of €10,000 and as from this year, each club could benefit from another €10,000 for each stage they advance to in the respective competition.
The local teams that will benefit from this incentive are Hamrun Spartans FC in the UEFA Champions League, Floriana FC, Sliema Wanderers FC and Marsaxlokk FC in the UEFA Conference League, the Birkirkara FC women’s team in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Luxol St Andrews in the UEFA Futsal Champions League and Valletta FC in the UEFA Youth League.
These teams will carry the VisitMalta logo on their kit in the UEFA competitions.
These details were announced in a conference of affairs by the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo in the presence of the Chief Executive of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef and the officials of the respective clubs.
The Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo pointed out how the increase in the incentive for the local teams that will compete in the UEFA tournament is a clear demonstration of how as a country there is nothing that stops us from making more successes in the world sports.
“Geographical smallness should never be a hurdle for Maltese sports aspirations. On the contrary, we should be more proactive to incentivise more sports companies that go abroad to advertise our country and above all to achieve the desired success,” pointed out Minister Clayton Bartolo.
