The General Assembly held on Friday resolved to spread over an additional season the transition of the National Amateur League towards its regular composition.
As of this coming season, the National Amateur League features two divisions, comprised of 16 teams in NAL 1 and 10 teams in NAL 2.
A motion was submitted by a number of NAL clubs with a view to reducing the relegation spots from NAL 1 to NAL 2 and adding a promotion spot from NAL 2 at the end of season 2024/25.
Through a counter-motion proposed by Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris, the Assembly voted to retain the NAL’s proposal and to extend the same format to season 2025/26 in order to reach the established regular composition of the National League which consists of 12 teams in the Premier Division, 16 in the Challenge League, 12 in NAL 1 and the remaining teams in NAL 2.
Therefore, for season 2024/25 and 2025/26, four teams will be relegated from NAL 1 to NAL 2. From season 2026/27, promotion and relegations will be consistent throughout all divisions with 2 promotions and 2 relegations.
