After eliminating Tre Penne of San Marino, Floriana host Vitoria SC in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday, kick-off at 19:00.
In the first leg against Tre Penne, the Greens came back from a goal down to win 3-1 at the Hibernians Stadium and last week, they notched a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with the team from San Marino. On Thursday, Darren Abdilla’s side definitely need to be at their very best to give Vitoria a hard time.
Vitória SC, popularly known as Vitória de Guimarães, were founded in 1922 and are based in Guimaraes. They won the Portuguese Cup once and the Super Cup once.
In Europe, they made it to the quater-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1986/87, the group stage of the UEFA Cup in 2005/06 and the group stage of the UEFA Europa League in 2019/20.
Last season, Vitoria SC placed fifth in the Portuguese Primeira Liga behind champions Sporting CP, runners-up Benfica, third-placed Porto and fourth-placed Braga.
The second leg will be played on August 1 at the Estadio D. Alfonso Henriques in Guimaraes, kick-off at at 21:15. In the third qualifying round, the team which qualifies will be facing the winner of the clash between FC Zürich of Switzerland and Shelbourne FC of Ireland.
