Sliema Wanderers scored twice in the second half to beat Mosta 2-0 in a match from the Opening Round of the 360Sports Malta Premier at the National Stadium on Friday.
The Wanderers had Adam Magri Overand, Simon Zibo, Steve Pisani and Jonata making their league debut although the first three had already made a first appearance in the UEFA Conference League. Mosta, on the other hand, had Richard Luca, Joao Teixeira, Cristian and Leo Fernandes making their first appearance.
Following a goalless first half, the Wanderers received a major setback one minute in the second half as Geoffrey Acheampong received a second yellow card and was therefore sent off by referee Fyodor Zammit.
However, Sliema managed to break the deadlock seven minutes later when off a cross by Jonata from the right, Vito Plut anticipated a defender to slot the ball past goalkeeper David Udoh Akpan.
Two minutes from time, Mosta goalkeeper David Udoh Akpan was also sent off for halting a solo run by Neil Frendo on the left flank.
Six minutes in added time, Sliema sealed the issue with a second goal courtesy of substitute Serginho who concluded a good move on the left flank with a diagonal shot which beat goalkeeper Sean Mintoff.
