Gzira United continued to strengthen their squad with the signing of Cameroonian twenty seven year old defensive midfielder Joseph Minala and Brazilian thirty one year old winger Alex da Paixão Alves.
Throughout his career, Minala played for Vigor Perconti, Lazio, Bari, Latina, Salernitana, Lucchese and Olbia in Italy, apart from a spell with Qingdao FC in China and Liepaja in Latvia before moving to Malta last summer to join Sliema Wanderers.
On the other hand, Alex da Paixão Alves, better known as Lecao, played for AD Bahia, Ferroviario, Colo Colo and Parnahyba in Brazil before moving to Malta to join Tarxien Rainbows. He then joined Balzan but after a spell with Al Akhdood in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Malta to play for Birkirkara and later Balzan. He had another spell in Saudi Arabia, this time with Al Washm and then returned to Malta to join Birkirkara. Last summer, he moved to Al Yarmouk in Kuwait.
The Maroons, led by coach Andrew Cohen, had earlier signed Faisal Chouaib, Douglas, Enrico Pepe, Jurgen Pisani, Justin Haber, Kevin Tulimieri and Christian Saint Ebisindor.
