Hibernians turn defeat into victory

Hibernians came back from a goal down to beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

A penalty put Naxxar ahead – a well-deserved lead as they were the better side but Hibernians managed to equalise thanks to another penalty, notching the winner early in the second half.

Naxxar had new signings Pedro Vitor, Matheus Taumaturgo, Luan Sergio, Caxambu and Kemmu Degran Jackson in the starting line-up while Gustavo Barbosa was included as a substitute. On the other hand, making their debut for Hibernians were Dexter Xuereb, Pedrao, Khevin Fraga and Federico Falcone together with substitute Kleiton.

The Lions took the lead on 21 minutes thanks to a Caxambu penalty.

However, Hibernians equalised on 34 minutes when they were awarded another penalty after Pedro Vitor challenged Bjorn Kristinsen inside the area and Alex Bruno duly converted.

Seven minutes in the second half, Hibernians notched the winner. Alex Bruno provided the assist from the left and Jurgen Degabriele hit home past goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
