Newly-promoted Melita continued to build on the impressive performance against Floriana in their first outing as they defeated Marsaxlokk 2-1 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Amateurs made the most of the chances they created with Andre scoring the two goals which handed them the three points. For Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, this was the second defeat in as many matches.
Coach Winston Muscat opted for four changes to the team which lost to Gzira as Jefferson, Duane Bonnici, Jacob Walker and Alex Tanque made way to Nikola Raden, Nikolai Muscat, Enmy Pena Beltre and Patrick Nonato. On the other hand, Clive Mizzi named an unchanged side for Melita.
Melita took the lead three minutes from the end of the first half when off a cross from the left, Jean Pierre Attard released Andre and the latter beat goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak with a diagonal shot from the left.
Marsaxlokk equalised on 63 minutes when substitute Alex Tanque concluded a solo effort on the left by rounding a defender and pulling to a more central position on the edge of the area before hitting low past goalkeeper Gosef Mizzi with the ball being deflected by Henrique Motta.
However, on 76 minutes, Melita regained the lead when Andre received an assist on the left, rounded Lucas Lopes and advanced into the area before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Drobnjak.
One minute from time, the Southseasiders were unlucky not to equalise when substitue Igor Goularte hit the foot of the upright.
