IZIBET Amateur League 1: Pembroke strike late to beat Qormi

Attard, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Kirkop United and San Gwann emerged as winners as another four matches from match-day 1 of the IZIBET Amateur League 1 were played on Saturday.

A goal by Nick Ghio, in added time before the end of the first half, handed Attard a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Sirens Stadium while a brace by Samuel Saldanha enabled Birzebbuga St. Peter’s to beat Rabat Ajax 2-0 as he converted a penalty on the 45th and scored a second goal on the 64th.

Kirkop United beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Early goals by David King Joachim on the 7th, Daryl Vella Gerada on the 15th and Giovanni Galea on the 18th handed Kirkop a comfortable lead before Bydasser Sammut reduced the gap just before half-time.

In another match, San Gwann came from behind to beat Marsaskala 2-1. Joshua Micallef put Marsaskala ahead on the 15th. Jake Lovegrove equalised on the 22nd and Jesmar Briffa made it 2-1 on the 76th.
