An early goal handed Sliema Wanderers a third win in four matches as they defeated Marsaxlokk 1-0 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
A win which puts Paul Zammit’s in joint-first place, condemning Marsaxlokk to a fourth defeat in as many matches.
Sliema had two changes from the team which drew with Hibernians as Neil Frendo and Jonata made way for Vito Plut and new recruit Wescley Matos da Silva. On the other hand, Marsaxlokk opted for four changes as Karl Micallef, Nikolai Muscat, Patrick Nonato and Lucas Lopez were preferred to Jake Ghio, Enmy Pena Beltre, Nikola Raden and Duane Bonnici.
The Wanderers scored the all-important goal on ten minutes when Myles Beerman served Vito Plut inside the area and the latter played the ball to Wescley whose shot from inside the area gave goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak no chance.
