Second win on the trot for Marsaxlokk

Marsaxlokk registered a second successive win as they came from behind to beat Zabbar St. Patrick in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Marsaxlokk join Mosta in seventh place, although the latter have a game in hand with Zabbar now sharing the bottom spot with Naxxar. For Zabbar, this was the fifth defeat in seven matches.

The Saints took the lead on 13 minutes when off an assist by Brian Gambarte from the right, Diogo Tavares’ diagonal shot was deflected by goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak to end at the back of the net.

Marsaxlokk equalised on 29 minutes. Leandro Aguirre delivered a corner from the right, Jovicic’s unfortunate header hit the crossbar and Jai Quitongo headed home from close range.

Six minutes from half-time, Leandro Aguirre put Marsaxlokk ahead with a direct freekick which saw the ball end in the top left corner behind goalkeeper Luca Camilleri.

Four minutes in added time, the Southseasiders made it 3-1 when Alex Tanque intercepted an erratic clearance by Bonilha and served substitute Duane Bonnici on the left with the latter slotting the ball past Camilleri.
