Victoria Hotspurs took sole leadership in the IZIBET Amateur League 2 as they defeated Siggiewi 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
An own goal put them ahead just before the end of the first half and Martin Buttigieg doubled the score on the 66th.
Mqabba suffered their first defeat, losing 1-3 to St. George’s at the Luxol Stadium. For the Saints, this was the first win. Erson Schembri put St. George’s ahead after just three minutes and Kenneth Aquilina doubled the score on the 34th. Neil Magri reduced the gap on the 79th but three minutes from time, Julien Iwueke sealed the issue for St. George’s.
Mdina Knights came from behind to beat Ta’ Xbiex 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Gian Carlo Sammut put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 7th minute but Matthew Borg equalised on the 14th. Lyden Micallef converted a penalty two minutes from time to hand Mdina the three points.
Dingli Swallows also turned defeat into victory beating Ghaxaq 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Aaron Agius put Ghaxaq ahead one minute from the end of the first half but Jason Camilleri equalised on the 74th and Ronaldinho Nathaniel Daley notched the winner on the 90th.
In another match, Kalkara United defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to second-half goals by Mark Martin on the 48th, Pedro Martins on the 58th and Jean Claude Annati eight minutes from time.
