After suffering their first defeat, losing to Floriana in their last outing, Birkirkara suffered a second consecutive defeat, losing 0-2 to Hamrun Spartans in a match from the 360Sports Opening Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
A defeat which allows Floriana to move to just two points behind them.
Hamrun Spartans, on the other hand, register a second successive win but stay fifth.
The Spartans managed to take the lead, just before the end of the first half, three minutes in added time when Juan Corbalan sent Shaisen Attard through and the latter beat two defenders on the run, before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe.
Hamrun doubled the score on 70 minutes when following a good run on the right flank, Joseph Mbong served Raphael Lopes who hit home past the Birkirkara goalkeeper.
