Balzan bounced back from back-to-back defeats to Birkirkara in a league match and the Meridianbet FA Trophy as they defeated Mosta 3-2 in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the National Stadium on Friday.
This was the first win for Balzan in the Closing Round and the first defeat to Mosta.
The Blues managed to take the lead on 14 minutes thanks to a Giancarlo Goncalves first time effort from outside the area following a clearance by the Balzan rear-guard.
Balzan equalised on 26 minutes when off a cross by Victor Blasco from the left, Luka Lukovic headed the ball past goalkeeper Udoh Akpan.
Three minutes in the second half, Balzan made it 2-1 when Jan Busuttil’s freekick from the right was deflected by Clayton Failla past goalkeeper Akpan for an own goal.
Mosta restored equilibrium on 77 minutes when off a Clayton Failla cross from the left, substitute Zachary Brincat beat goalkeeper Dylan Ciappara.
However four minutes from time, Udoyen Akpan hit home past Udoh Akpan off a cross by Victor Blasco.
