Floriana and Naxxar Lions joined Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans, Hibernians, Mosta, Sliema Wanderers and Challenge League leaders Valletta in the quarter-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy after emerging as winners in the last two Round of 16 matches in programme on Thursday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
Floriana came from behind to beat IZIBET Amateur League 2 leaders Victoria Hotspurs 4-1.
Ferdinando Apap put the Hotspurs ahead after just two minutes but Fernando Junior equalised on 13 minutes. Eight minutes in the second half, Elvis Mashike made it 2-1 for Floriana with Gabriel Sotomayor increasing the lead on 69 minutes., Antiago De Flavia scored a fourth goal eight minutes from time.
In another match, Naxxar Lions defeated Challenge League side Zurrieq 4-0.
Maicon put the Lions ahead on 8 minutes. Four minutes later, Bacary Sane doubled the score and Maicon added another on 23 minutes. Two minutes in the second half, the Lions scored the fourth goal thanks to a Hugo Santos penalty.
