BOV Challenge League: Valletta beat Marsa to move nine points clear

Valletta moved nine points clear in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Marsa 1-0 in the big match at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Brandon Paiber scored the all-important goal on 19 minutes.

Meanwhile Zurrieq and Mgarr United earned a spot in the Top 8 after sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Sulahmana Mamadu Bah converted a penalty on 56 minutes to put Zurrieq ahead but six minutes from time, Kyle Frendo levelled matters for Mgarr.

Fgura United came from behind to beat Sirens 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Hafiz Mohammed Akadom put Sirens ahead on 6 minutes but Elise Okito Lundula scored twice on 9 and 53 minutes.

On the other hand, Gudja United defeated Mtarfa 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Wilian put Gudja ahead three minutes in the second half and although Daren Falzon converted a penalty on 58 minutes, Dale Mifsud restored the lead on 64 minutes and Diego sealed the issue with a goal three minutes from time.

Valletta lead the way with 38 points, followed by Tarxien on 29, Marsa and Swieqi 28, Pieta’ 26, Santa Lucia 25, Mgarr and Zurrieq 22, Fgura and Gudja 21, Sirens and Zebbug 17, Lija 12, St. Andrews 10, Senglea 8 and Mtarfa 7.

Valletta, Tarxien, Marsa, Swieqi, Pieta’ Santa Lucia, Mgarr and Zurrieq will therefore play in the Top 8 while Fgura, Gudja, Sirens, Zebbug, Lija, St. Andrews, Senglea and Mtarfa will play in the Play-Out.
