Led by new coach Andrew Cohen, Balzan returned to winning ways as they defeated Naxxar Lions 3-0 in a match from the 360 Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.
This was a breath of fresh air for Balzan who had lost three out of the first four matches and now join Zabbar and Mosta in joint-seventh place on 6 points, one ahead of Melita and Gzira United.
Naxxar, on the other hand suffered a fifth defeat in as many matches in the Closing Round to remain anchored at the bottom of the table without any points, scoring no goals and conceding thirteen.
Balzan managed to take the lead on 20 minutes when off a corner from the left, Udoyen Akpan headed the ball home past goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
Jan Busuttil doubled the score on 73 minutes when he concluded a swift counter-attack for Balzan by beating the Naxxar custodian.
On 90 minutes, Balzan scored the third goal courtesy of Luka Lukovic who hit home following a good move by Jan Busuttil.
