The second phase of the BOV Challenge League kicked-off on Saturday with three matches from the Top 8.
Leaders Valletta defeated Swieqi United 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Enoch Mushagalusa put the Citizens ahead four minutes from the end of the first half and Andrei Ciolacu converted a penalty seven minutes in added time.
Marsa were held in a 1-1 draw by Mgarr United at the Centenary Stadium. Lydon Micallef put Marsa ahead on 28 minutes but a Christian Saint Ebisindor penalty on 62 minutes restored equilibrium.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Zurrieq defeated Santa Lucia 6-3. Emmanuel Asante handed Santa Lucia a two-goal lead with goals on 12 and 27 minutes but Sulahmana Mamadu Bah reduced the gap on 29 minutes and before the end of the first half, Brite Ihuomah levelled matters. Asante restored the lead four minutes in the second half but Bah restored equilibrium on 56 minutes. Precious Linus Tenebe made it 4-3 for Zurrieq on 62 minutes and Bah scored twice on 82 and 88 minutes to seal the issue.
Valletta lead the way in the Top 8 with 41 points, followed by Marsa and Tarxien on 29, Swieqi 28, Pieta’ 26, Zurrieq and Santa Lucia 25 and Mgarr 23.
