IZIBET Amateur League 1: San Gwann take sole leadership

San Gwann took sole leadership in the IZIBET Amateur League 1 as they defeated Attard 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday thanks to a brace by Ricardo Nahuel Velasquez on 42 and 81 minutes.

Attard, however, still managed to secure a Top 6 spot along with Xghajra Tornados who registered a fine 5-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Raylon Kaylon Paisley opened the score on 32 minutes and after Birzebbuga had their goalkeeper sent off, Xghajra scored four in the second half thanks to Larson Borg on 53 minutes, Paisley on 73 minutes, Richmond Baratuipre Hanson on 77 minutes and Shaban Chikh Ali on 91 minutes.

Qrendi, on the other hand, lost 0-2 to Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Luxol Stadium. Sherif Mohammed Iddrisu put Luqa ahead on 70 minutes and Jaziel Mulongo Kambale on 97 minutes.

Mellieha and Qormi shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Sirens Stadium while in another match at the Luxol Stadium, Pembroke Athleta defeated Rabat Ajax 2-0 thanks to a goal by Roderick Taliana on 40 minutes and a Weverton Gomes penalty on 94 minutes.

San Gwann lead the way with 38 points, followed by Vittoriosa on 36, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 33, Luqa St. Andrew’s 31, Xghajra Tornados 30, Attard 27, Qrendi 24, Qormi 22, Zejtun Corinthians 19, Mellieha 17, Kirkop United 16, Pembroke Athleta 13, Marsaskala 12, Gharghur 10, Rabat Ajax 6 and Msida St. Joseph 4.
