Melita registered an impressive 2-0 win over leaders Hamrun Spartans in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the National Stadium on Sunday.
A win which puts Clive Mizzi’s side on level points with Gzira United just one point behind the six teams sharing third place, namely Birkirkara, Hibernians, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Sliema and Zabbar. The Spartans, on the other hand, now share the top spot with Floriana, two points ahead of the teams in third place.
Melita took the lead on 13 minutes when Henry Bonello blocked a cross by Andre from the left but Jesus Yepez slotted the ball home from the right.
Seven minutes in the second half, Melita doubled the score when they were awarded a penalty after Mayron floored Camilo Sanchez down inside the area and Alan Borg Olivier converted.
