Hibernians hold Floriana in 1-1 draw

Hibernians rescued a point in a 1-1 draw with Floriana in a match from match-day 27 of the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the Gozo Stadium on Saturday.

A point which puts Hibernians in third place on 17 points, one ahead of Marsaxlokk and Mosta, two ahead of Sliema and three ahead of Zabbar and Hamrun but does not yet determine whether they will play in the Top 6 or Bottom 6.

At this point, the most favourable results for the Paolites would be a positive result for Mosta against Zabbar, either Hamrun or Sliema failing to win or Marsaxlokk losing to Melita.

Meanwhile Floriana, who were already sure of securing a Top 6 finish, are now joint-leaders with Birkirkara but the Stripes have a game in hand.

The Greens took the lead after just seven minutes when off a through ball by Dunstan Vella, Franklin Sasere avoided Rui Bruno’s marking and beat goalkeeper Pablo Sanchez.

However, twelve minutes from time, Hibs equalised when off a cross by Apostolos Martinis from the left, Bjorn Kristensen slotted the ball past goalkeeper Mafoumbi.
