After beating Hibernians last week, Naxxar Lions earned another three points as they defeated Melita 2-0 in the basement clash of the 360Sports Malta Premier Bottom Six at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.
The Lions leapfrog Balzan as they now lie third from bottom on 16 points, one ahead of Balzan with Melita anchored at the bottom of the table with 10 points. A result which almost condemns Melita to a Play-Out against either Balzan or Naxxar Lions, depending on which team will avoid the bottom two places.
Melita received a major setback after just 21 minutes when goalkeeper Aleksander Lubik was sent off for handling the ball outside the area.
Naxxar took advantage, taking the lead three minutes from the end of the first half thanks to substitute Hugo Santos.
Five minutes in the second half, another substitute, Takuma Yamaguchi, doubled the score.
