Marsaxlokk stay top following draw with Birkirkara

Marsaxlokk stay top in the 360Sports Malta Premier Top Six as they earned a point in a 1-1 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

A draw which leaves the Southseasiders one point ahead of Hamrun and Sliema with Birkirkara trailing by three points. However, Floriana could join Marsaxlokk on top should they beat Mosta later on Sunday.

Birkirkara managed to take the lead on 21 minutes when Kemar Reid concluded a great solo effort which saw him beat two defenders on the run and round another before beating goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona with an angled shot from the left.

Marsaxlokk levelled matters on 74 minutes. Birkirkara defender Tomislav Papazov handled the ball inside the area and referee Trustin Farrugia Cann ordered a penalty with Yuri Messias duly converting.

Two minutes later, Papazov was sent off for Birkirkara for hitting an opponent, leaving his side in ten men for the remaining minutes.
