Malta Premier League records profit in first season under new management structure

The Malta Premier League (MPL), the association that unites all clubs competing in the top tier of Maltese football, reported an income of just over €500,000 for the past season.

More than half of this amount was registered as profit, with €240,000 distributed among the clubs as dividends. This is in addition to other financial support received by the clubs through UEFA solidarity funds.

The announcement was made during the MPL’s Annual General Meeting held on Monday.

This marked the first season in which the MPL officially assumed the management of the Malta Premier, operating in a joint venture with the Malta Football Association (MFA).

A preliminary analysis indicates a 15% increase in match attendances compared to the previous season, a clear sign of growing public interest.

This comparison was made on a like-for-like basis covering 182 matches.

For the first time, the Malta Premier League championship was organised at a profit.
While the regular season closed with a marginal loss, the Final Four phase generated enough revenue to turn the overall outcome into a positive financial result.
