Gzira United FC secured the services of Costa Rican twenty nine year old attacking midfielder Johan Josué Bonilla Calderón.

Johan Bonilla played for CS Herediano, CS Uruguay de Coronado, Sporting FC, Guadalupe FC in Costa Rica and following spells Diriangén FC with Deportivo Walter Ferretti in Nicaragua, he returned to Costa Rica where he played for AD Juventud Escazuceña, AD Aserrí, Turrialba FC, ADR Jicaral, Municipal Grecia, Puntarenas FC, Sporting FC and Santa Ana FC

The Maroons, who had earlier appointed Clive Mizzi as their new coach, have so far signed goalkeepers Aleksander Lubik and Karl Sargent, Deacon Abela, Andre, Marc Van de Bovenkamp Font, Jork Becerra, Maxuell Samurai, Santiago Martinez, Pablo Fonseca and David Xuereb with Enrico Pepe, Lucas Macula, Jackson Mendoza and Thaylor Aldama moving elsewhere.
