The Malta FA and The Malta Trust Foundation (TMTF) have signed an agreement for the latter to receive financial assistance as part of the UEFA Foundation for Children’s 10th anniversary.
The UEFA Foundation for Children is a charitable organisation that was established in 2015 by UEFA to utilise football’s influence to improve the lives of underprivileged children and help them reach their full potential.
The agreement between the Malta FA and TMTF, which falls on the Association’s 125th anniversary, came after each UEFA Member Association was asked to nominate worthy recipients for an award to commemorate 10 years from the foundation of the UEFA Foundation for Children.

The Malta FA nominated TMTF as a tribute to the charitable work performed by the Foundation within the Maltese Islands. The Foundation utilises sport to help develop individuals, integrate minorities, as well as support the protection of children’s rights.
Established in 2015, TMTF aims to assist and support young persons facing particular situations by taking concrete action through the development of initiatives and programmes targeting the empowerment and the psychosocial support of vulnerable groups.
TMTF has a number of ongoing projects and programmes which support vulnerable children, including ISPORT, which seeks to make sports accessible to children and young persons with visual impairment, as well as create an inclusive environment where everyone can participate in sports.
As a result of the nomination, TMTF will be receiving a monetary award that was donated by the UEFA Foundation for Children.
The agreement was signed by Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo and General Secretary Dr Maria Azzopardi, together with TMTF Founder and Chairperson Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
President Vassallo highlighted that the collaboration between the Malta FA and philanthropic organisations has always been very strong, and it will continue to grow stronger through further collaborative projects in the future.
“The Malta FA along the years has always been very involved in social responsibility, and now we are even more engaged, not just through financial assistance but with sustainable projects directly linked to numerous charitable organisations.”
“The Malta Trust Foundation deserves this financial assistance through the UEFA Foundation for Children, thus for being a very active organisation in addressing poverty and vulnerable people in the society. These monies will help The Malta Trust Foundation to support a sports project for children. Solidarity brings unity and leaves a positive impact everywhere, being about fairness and dignity,” he added.
On her part, H.E. Coleiro Preca remarked: “It is truly commendable to see the Malta Football Association championing the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children.”
“The support of the UEFA Foundation is invaluable to the Malta Trust Foundation, enabling us to continue our mission of making sports accessible to all, particularly children and young people with visual impairment,” she concluded.
