The Malta Football Association and the Malta Premier League reacted to amendments to the constitution presented in parliament.
The Malta FA said “The Malta FA has taken note of the constitutional proposals recently tabled in the House of Representatives. While recognising that these proposals may be well-intentioned, the Malta FA is concerned that provisions granting unfettered discretion could be open to abuse, to the detriment of sporting activities.”
“The Malta FA therefore respectfully calls upon the Members of the House of Representatives to ensure that no mechanism is enacted which may be applied in an abusive or disproportionate manner.”
Meanwhile the Malta Premier League expressed its concern over the Constitutional amendment tabled by the Opposition.
The MPL said that while they had no doubt about the good intentions of the amendment, it was joining the Malta Football Association in its appeal that no mechanism should be introduced that would give rise to abuse by those who do not have a direct interest and whose aim would be simply to hinder or stop the development of sporting activities.
