Trustin Farrugia Cann has been elected Vice-President of the Malta Football Association by acclamation during the Malta FA’s General Assembly, held at the Centenary Hall on Thursday 16th October, 2025.
Ing. Farrugia Cann was the sole candidate for the vacant vice-present position, previously occupied by Dr Maria Azzopardi who was appointed Malta FA General Secretary earlier this year.
Ing. Farrugia Cann’s nomination had been confirmed and approved by the Electoral Commission at the start of the month.
Ing. Farrugia Cann is a familiar name in the local football scene, having been a match official for 24 years, 10 of which on the FIFA International List. His highlights include officiating in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League, as well as the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championships. He also served as President of the Malta Football Referees Association. He recently announced his retirement from refereeing, putting an end to a distinguished career.
Commenting on his new role, Ing. Farrugia Cann remarked: “After more than two decades in refereeing, it is a huge honour and a privilege to serve Maltese football from another perspective, now as Vice-President of the Malta FA.”
Ing. Farrugia Cann becomes the third Vice-President of the Malta FA, joining Senior Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris and Adrian D. Casha, both of whom were re-elected for another four-year term in March 2024.
