Floriana, Hamrun Spartans, HIbernians, Mgarr United, Naxxar Lions and Zurrieq qualified for the Round of 16 of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup after they registered wins in matches from the Round of 32 on Saturday.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Floriana defeated BOV Challenge League side Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 2-1.
Owen Spiteri put Floriana. Haead on 7 minutes s and although David Oliveira equalised on 36 minutes, Mattia Veselji notched the winner on 66 minutes.
In the Round of 16, the Greens will be facing Hamrun Spartans.
In fact, Hamrun scored two goals in each half to beat BOV Amateur League I side Sanglea Athletic 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium.
Ante Coric handed the Spartans the lead four minutes from the end of the first half and Semir Smajlagic doubled the score just before half-time. Ryan Camenzuli extended the lead on 57 minutes and N’Dri Koffi added another on 90 minutes.
Hibernians defeated BOV Amateur League I side Kirkop United 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium.
Ayrton Attard opened the score on 8 minutes and Miullen doubled the score on 20 minutes. Four minutes later, Cleiton extended the lead. Lucas Caruana added another on 69 minutes.
The Paolites will be facing Marsaxlokk or Balzan in the next round.
Mgarr United came from two goals down to beat Swieqi United 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the end of the ninety minutes in a clash between two teams from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium.
Emmanuel Asante put Swieqi ahead on 14 minutes and Kian Leonardi doubled the score on 45 minutes. However, Cristhyan reduced the gap on 83 and went on to notch the equaliser four minutes in added time.
Terence Vella, Jurgen Debono, Joseph Paul Zammit, Matthew Mifsud, Cristhyan, Matthias Fenech and Sean Schembri scored for Mgarr with Daniel Sant missing the only one. Samuel Okoh, Jan Tanti, Emmanuel Asante, Salam Kojo Mawuena, Paul Fenech and Daniel Agius (II) scord for Swieqi with Daniel Agius (I) and MIchael MIcallef falling to score for Liam Mangion’s side.
Mgarr will be facing Valletta or Melita in the next stage.
Naxxar Lions beat BOV Challenge League side Santa Lucia 5-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Edward Bolanos put Naxxar ahead on 6 minutes and Rosiel doubled the score on 15 minutes. Firmino made it 3-0 on 42 minutes and just before the end of the first half, Bolanos added another two minutes in added time. Firmino extended the lead on 68 minutes but Jean Carlos pulled one back for Santa Lucia two minutes later.
In the next round, Naxxar will be facing Zabbar St. Patrick or Pieta’ Hotspurs.
In another clash between two BOV Challenge League sides, Zurrieq defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to two late goals by Jonathan Monney on 82 minutes and Brendan Schneider two minutes later.
In the Round of 16, Zurrieq will be facing Mosta or Qala Saints.
On Friday, Birkirkara and Zebbug Rangers were the first two teams to reach the Round of 16.
