Gzira United, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Sliema Wanderers, Tarxien Rainbows, Valletta and Zabbar St. Patrick joined Birkirkara, Floriana, Hamrun Spartans, HIbernians, Mgarr United, Naxxar Lions, Zebbug Rangers and Zurrieq in the Round of 16 of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup as they all emerged as winners in matches from the Round of 32 on Sunday.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gzira United beat BOV Challenge League side Fgura United 1-0.
Andre put the Maroons ahead on 34 minutes. Brooklyn Borg doubled the score on 51 minutes with Timilehin Caleb Akande reducing the gap on 73 minutes.
In the Round of 16, Gzira will be facing Tarxien Rainbows.
In fact, at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, a goal by Tavinho on 31 minutes handed Tarxien Rainbows a narrow win over BOV Gozo Football League First Division side Kercem Ajax.
Marsaxlokk eliminated BOV Challenge League side Balzan eliminated Marsaxlokk, beating them 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Chiemezie Stephen Gabriel put Balzan ahead on 64 minutes but Dodo equalised on 90 minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, Nevin Portelli, Nikolai Muscat, Dodo, Ayom Majok, James Vella, Enrico Pepe and Pablo Sanchez scored for Marsaxlokk while Juan Corbalan and Leandro Aguirre failed to score. On the other hand, Olwatobiloba Awosanya, Luis Gabriel Santos Silva, Jake Grech, GIanluca Cacciatore, Zachary Grech and Alex Cini scored with Jake Engerer, James Scicluna and Benjamin HIli failing to score.
In the next round, Marsaxlokk will be facing Hibernians.
Mosta scored twice in the first half to beat Gozitan side Qala Saints 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
Joao Victor put Mosta ahead on 8 minutes but three minutes from the end of the first half, Leo Fernandes doubled the score.
Mosta will be facing Zurrieq in the Round of 16.
Sliema Wanderers defeated BOV Challenge League side St. Andrews 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Centenary Stadium.
Jeff Jadyn Sowah put St. Andrews ahead on 39 minutes but Sulahmana Mamadu Bah equalised on 70 minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, Fernandinho, Steve Pisani and Edmond Agius scored for Sliema Wanderers while Jeff Jadyn Sowah scored the only penalty for St. Andrews. Rashed Al Tumi saved the penalties by Elizeu, Michael Johnson and Liam Scicluna while Murilo Freire’s penalty was parried by Fredrick Tabone.
The Wanderers will be facing Birkirkara in the next round.
A goal by Yannick Yankam on 72 minutes handed Valletta a narrow win over BOV Challenge League side Melita at the Centenary Stadium.
Valletta will be facing Mgarr United in the next round.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zabbar St. Patrick defeated BOV Challenge League side Pieta’ Hotspurs 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Pedro Cejas scored the all-important goal on 27 minutes.
In the Round of 16, Zabbar will be facing Naxxar Lions.
