Mġarr United’s unbeaten Round Two was capped by individual honours for Ryan Vella and Amber Grech, while Swieqi United’s Ema Micallef also picked up recognition in the Assikura Women’s Youth League.
Ryan Vella and Amber Grech crowned a memorable Round 2 of the Assikura Women’s League with individual accolades that underlined Mġarr United’s outstanding start to the season.
The Mġarr United duo were both rewarded for their contributions, with Vella named Coach of the Round and Grech collecting the October/November Best Player award.

Mġarr United enjoyed an unbeaten Round 2, a run of results that has firmly placed them in the driving seat as they push for their first-ever women’s league title.
“Winning this award for the third consecutive time is a great honour, but more importantly, it reflects the strong performances of the team. It highlights the progress we have made and how far we have come from last season to this one. All the credit goes to the players and staff,” Vella said.
“Our expectation is to build on the progress we have made and maintain the momentum from the past two rounds. We remain focused on continuous improvement and on taking things step by step, with the aim of finishing the season as strongly as possible.”
Grech has been central to the club’s impressive campaign, contributing four goals from midfield.
“This award means a lot to me. It represents all the effort, sacrifices, and hard work I have been putting in every day, as well as the support and trust from my team-mates and coaches. It motivates me to keep improving, stay focused, and give even more for my team.”
“It has been a very positive season so far – intense and demanding, but also very rewarding. It feels like everything we have been working for over the years is finally coming together. As a team, we are focused, we train hard, and we push each other every day. With the support of our coaching staff and committee, we have stayed consistent, and that is what has brought us to where we are now.”
Meanwhile, Swieqi United’s Ema Micallef was awarded the October/November Player of the Month in the Assikura Women’s Youth League.
The talented youngster, who also features for Swieqi’s senior side, caught the eye after scoring a hat-trick in an emphatic 8-0 victory over Lija/Mġarr in October.
“I appreciate this award, as it recognises the consistent effort and dedication I put into my work each day. I dedicate it to my team for their unwavering support and backing throughout,” Micallef said.
Andrew Grech, Managing Director at Assikura Insurance Brokers PCC Ltd, presented the awards to the winners during a brief ceremony held at the company’s offices in Santa Venera.
This marks the fourth consecutive season that Assikura Insurance Brokers PCC Limited has supported women’s football as the proud sponsor of the Women’s League, Women’s Youth League, Knock-Out competitions, and the Super Cup.
