Government to propose allocation of site for Valletta FC Football Campus

Valletta FC welcomes a major step towards a historic milestone in the Club’s history as this evening the Prime Minister announced that government will be proposing for Parliamentary approval the allocation of site in Pembroke for the development of Valletta FC’s Football Campus as a flagship regional sports and community campus. Valletta F.C. acknowledges that this has been a comprehensive and extensive process, culminating in the submission of a proposal for Parliamentary approval. This milestone has been achieved through constructive discussions and sustained efforts undertaken collaboratively by the Government and the Club.

The allocation of the site also carries significant long-term social value, placing an emphasis on wellbeing, youth development, health, sports, social inclusion, regeneration, and safer communities. Valletta FC welcomes government’s willingness to create broad-based benefit, by allowing thousands of athletes to use the facilities, community events, school partnerships, women’s football and inclusion programmes.

Valletta FC is the most supported club in Malta with over 27,000 supporters and their families. The Valletta FC Football Campus will be a first of its kind sports facility in Malta, forming part of a holistic master plan aimed at delivering high-level sporting infrastructure. The Campus will create new opportunities in football, health, rehabilitation, sports science, management, education and related ancillary activities. The land allocation, which is now subject to a Parliamentary process, is fully aligned with planning policy, and within the existing planning framework for the area, through which the Club will be enhancing the liveability of the area with its investment.

Addressing club members during today’s meeting, at which the official announcement was made, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that the Government is honouring its commitment to Valletta FC. He added that this long-awaited dream is now becoming a reality with the announcement of the project, to be followed by its implementation, which must proceed at a strong pace.

Valletta FC President Claudio Grech stated that, “after decades of uncertainty, Valletta FC finally has clarity on its future. We will develop the first football campus on the island providing an integrated facility through which we aim to contribute towards the enhancement of the football landscape in Malta. This is a cornerstone of the strategy we embarked upon less than 2 years ago, wherein together with our Gen-V project we will transform Valletta FC into a regional football powerhouse.”

Valletta FC will now follow the process closely and will engage with all respective stakeholders accordingly.
