Hamrun Spartans kept the pace with leaders Floriana as they defeated Birkirkara 3-0 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
A win which leaves the Spartans two points behind the Greens. Birkirkara, on the other hand, are currently eighth and probably, only a win over Floriana, would maintain alive their chances of making it to the Top 6. Meanwhile thanks to this result, Gzira United and Marsaxlokk secured their Top 6 status.
Matthew Guillaumier put the Spartans ahead after just seven minutes. Joseph Mbong doubled the score on 75 minutes and three minutes later, he converted a penalty to seal the issue with a third goal.
