Naxxar Lions were relegated to the Challenge League after a goal mid-way through the first half handed Mosta a narrow win in the YoHealth Malta Premier Relegation Play-Offs at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Mosta had to take part in the Relegation Play-Offs after ending their Closing Round commitments at the bottom of the Bottom 6 but when it mattered most, they managed to beat Naxxar Lions, who had qualified for the Top 6 in the Closing Round after finishing second from bottom in the Opening Round.
The Blues scored the all-important goal on 23 minutes when off an assist by Nevin Portelli, Azer Kozic slotted the ball past goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
To make matters worse for Naxxar, Gustavo Felipe was sent off on 75 minutes and in added time, Giancarlo Goncalves almost notched the second goal for Mosta but was unlucky to hit the woodwork.
