Zabbar St. Patrick registered their first win in the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
Both Zabbar and Birzebbuga were eager to bounce back after suffering defeats in their opening matches. Both sides had their fair share of scoring opportunities but Zabbar scored the all-important goal to claim the three points.
Birzebbuga had three changes from the team which lost to Floriana as Gustavo Felipe, Kurt Bondin and Luis Riascos replaced Alessandro Coppola, Daniel Zerafa and Rasmus Thellufsen. Zabbar, on the other hand, had Jurgen Pisani and new signing Karlo Brucic replacing Zven Polidano and Adnan Basic.
Zabbar St. Patrick managed to take the lead on the hour when Nicolas Lancioni delivered a cross from the right and substitute Adnan Basic flicked the ball past goalkeeper Mattia Chiesa.
Birzebbuga had Jackson Mendoza sent off on the 90th for a dangerous tackle on Liam Micallef.
