Floriana drop first points in draw with Hamrun Spartans

Hamrun Spartans and Floriana shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

The Spartans earned their first point after two defeats in the first two matches while Floriana dropped their first points after claiming maximum points from the first two matches.

The Greens had one change from the team which defeated Sliema as Kenan Dervisagic was preferred to Tomislav Gudelj. Hamrun, on the other hand, had three changes with Rafael Compri, Jake Grech and Damir Ceter replaced Ryan Camenzuli, Ante Coric and Lucas Villela while Saliou Thioune abandoned the pitch injured after just seven minutes and was replaced by Gonzalo Virano.

Hamrun took the lead on 17 minutes when Ognjen Bjelicic provided Marcelo with a perfect pass on the right and the latter advanced into the area before slotting past goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti.

Floriana were unlucky to hit the cross bar with Tomislav Gudelj on 66 minutes but eight minutes later, they notched the equaliser when Federico Varela delivered a free kick from the left and substitute Robert Muric hit low past goalkeeper Celio.
