Malta climbs one place in FIFA Ranking

After obtaining four positive results from the four matches played, Malta climbed one place in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking and is now ranked 160th.

Malta defeated Andorra 2-1 away from home in the first match from Group D1 of the UEFA Nations League and following a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein in a friendly match, Malta was held in a 1-1 draw by Gibraltar at Ta’ Qali before another win over Andorra, 1-0, on Sunday. These four positive results extended the team’s positive run to five matches.

The team still lies fifth from bottom among the UEFA member associations in the ranking, but lies just two places behind Moldova. Behind Malta are Andorra (175, down 3), Gibraltar (201, up 1), Liechtenstein (207, down 1) and San Marino 211.

Malta’s next fixture is the final match from Group D1 against Gibraltar on November 16 away from home.

Meanwhile World champions Spain have surged further ahead at the top of the pecking order, with second-placed Argentina, the beaten finalists at the FIFA World Cup 2026™, now almost 40 points adrift, while France still occupy the final place on the podium. However, the standout storyline in the upper echelons comes from Portugal (5th, up 2), who have leapfrogged both Brazil (6th, down 1) and Morocco (7th, also down 1).
