Wayne Attard has been appointed coach of the Malta Women’s Under-15 and Under-17 National Teams, bringing valuable international experience and a strong commitment to youth development.
Returning to the Malta Football Association following several years working abroad, Attard is looking forward to contributing to the development of Malta’s next generation of female footballers.
“It is a great honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to work with the Malta Football Association again. Having spent a number of years abroad, I feel I have gained valuable experience, not only as a coach but also as a leader and educator,” Attard said.
“My main objective is to create a positive, professional and challenging environment where players feel confident, enjoy representing their country and are encouraged to reach their full potential.”
Attard emphasised the importance of balancing individual development with team success, stressing that results should not come at the expense of long-term progress.
“Winning is important, especially when representing your country, but it should never come at the expense of long-term development. Our goal is not simply to prepare players for the next match, but for the next stage of their careers.”
Looking ahead, Attard aims to establish a clear pathway towards senior international football, focusing on developing technically capable, tactically intelligent and mentally strong players.
“Collaboration with club coaches is essential to ensure continuous development. Ultimately, success will be measured not only by results, but by how many players we help progress through the national team pathway and reach senior international level.”
His appointment reinforces the Malta FA’s commitment to nurturing young talent and preparing the next generation of players for the demands of international football.
