A goal two minutes from time enabled Gzira United to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Hamrun Spartans in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
This was the fourth consecutive draw for Darren Abdilla’s side who therefore continued their recovery although they are still second from bottom.
For Hamrun Spartans, this was another frustrating result following the draw against Hibernians last week. They now lie temporarily in fourth place on 12 points.
Marcello Trotta put Hamrun ahead on 17 minutes when off a short clearance he beat goalkeeper Edoardo Colombo.
Gzira, however, equalised on 45 minutes thanks to a Saldanha effort who beat Gabriele Marchegiani with a fine rising shot when served just outside the area.
Hamrun regained the lead thanks to another goal by Marcello Trotta who flicked the ball past Colombo following a corner from the left.
However two minutes from time, Albion Pllana headed home from close range after receiving a cross from the left.
