Leaders Valletta moved five points clear in the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase as they scored a goal in each half to defeat Mosta 2-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens lead by five points over Marsaxlokk and seven over Floriana but the Greens have a game in hand. Mosta, on the other hand, now share the fifth place with Hamrun Spartans on 13 points, one behind Sliema.
Valletta took the lead on 19 minutes when Andrea Zammit served Petar Sekulovic whose powerful drive gave no chance to goalkeeper Udoh Akpan.
Nevin Portelli was unlucky to hit the crossbar towards the end of the first half for Mosta.
However, Andrea Zammit doubled the score on 63 minutes as he headed the ball home off a corner.
