Gzira United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a clash between the two bottom sides in the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Saldanha put Gzira head three minutes from the end of the first half thanks to a fine curling shot which gave goalkeeper Mattia Chiesa no chance.
However, six minutes in the second half, Birzebbuga levelled matters when they were awarded a penalty after Marc van de Bovenkamp floored Gabriel Costa inside the area and from the penalty spot, Costa made no mistake.
The Maroons regained the lead on 65 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Miguel Azzopardi floored Mohamed Ange Fofana inside the area and Gabriel Mentz converted.
However, on 72 minutes, Birzebbuga equalised as they were awarded another penalty for a foul by Luisinho on Gabriel Costa and the same player converted.
