Leaders Valletta bounced back from last week’s defeat to Hamrun Spartans as they defeated eternal rivals Floriana 1-0 in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
The Citizens therefore move seven points clear of second placed Sliema Wanderers, leaving the Greens, who are now led by coach Carlos Alos, sharing fifth place with Hibernians on 16 points.
While for Valletta, this was the fifth win in six matches, this was the second defeat for Floriana, who have now gone five matches without a win.
Roko Prsa scored the all-important goal on 61 minutes.
