The Malta Football Association acknowledges public considerations regarding the assistance scheme that supports approximately 160 children from families experiencing social and financial hardship in accessing football nurseries.
During the Executive Committee meeting held earlier today at Centenary Hall the Malta FA presented the establishment of a Grassroots Sponsorship Committee. The committee will be tasked with developing guidelines and providing recommendations on sponsorships and children’s exposure to ensure alignment among all relevant stakeholders and the welfare, development, and best interests of participating children. The group will be chaired by Professor Andrew Azzopardi, with members nominated from the Malta FA, the Youth Football Association (YFA), the Commissioner for Children, Oasi, Sedqa, Caritas, and other relevant partners.
The Malta FA will commit internal resources to support the committee’s work and deliver robust governance, safeguarding, transparency, and accountability, including clear terms of reference, regular updates, and milestones to safeguard children, promote responsible sponsorship practices, and uphold the integrity of grassroots football.
The Malta FA listens to constructive feedback and strives to translate this into concrete efforts to improve and pursue positive initiatives.
