Birkirkara secured the services of twenty nine year old Portuguese attacking midfielder Rafael Vicente Ferreira Santos.

A product of Sporting Lisbon, Rafa Santos also played for Estoril, Real SC, AD Oeiras and Casa Pia at youth level before turning out for Moura, CO Montijo, Amora FC, CD Fatima, Oriental, B SAD and Real SC. He then moved to Stal Mielec in Poland and following a spell with Al Shabab Club in Bahrain, he joined Gornik Leczna in Poland.

The Stripes, who have confirmed Paul Zammit as coach, had earlier announced the signing of Aleandro Garzia and Jake Vassallo and confirmed that Shaun Dimech, Leandro Lacunza, Alessandro Coppola, Manuel Morello, Fran Lopez, Luis Cordova, Roni Santos, Geoffrey Acheampong, Donovan Makoma, Sebastian Viveros, Jacques Bayo and Jere Vrcic left the club or were released.
