Franklin Sasere scores three as Birkirkara hit four past Gzira United

Birkirkara registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Gzira United in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.

The Stripes scored twice within the first sixteen minutes, adding another two goals in the second half.

Paul Zammit handed eight of their new signings a start – Rashed Al Tumi, Zach Muscat, Jake Vassallo, Frazan, Rafa Santos, Jefferson Vinicius, Kadu and Amarildo while Shaft Brewer, Aleksandar Djordjevic and Louis Pahama were included as substitutes.

On the other hand, Darren Abdilla had new recruits Albion Pllana, Jonathan Farías and Saldanha in the starting line-up with Nathan Joyce, Antiago De Flavia, Dinis Djadjo and Luisinho included during the second half.

The Stripes managed to take the lead after just ten minutes when Aleandro Garzia served Amarildo who concluded a great move during which he avoided challenges by three defenders with a low shot from the edge of the area which beat goalkeeper Karl Sargent with the ball ending in the bottom right corner.

Six minutes later, Birkirkara doubled the score when off a through ball by Garzia and despite the challenge of Gabriel Bohrer Mentz, Franklin Sasere managed to slot the ball past goalkeeper Sargent.

Six minutes in the second half, Birkirkara made it 3-0 when they were awarded a penalty after Andy Borg floored Aleandro Garzia inside the area and from the penalty spot, Franklin Sasere converted.

The Stripes added another six minutes from time when Aleksandar Djordjevic served Louis Pahama on the left and the latter managed to beat the Gzira custodian with a fine shot.
