Mtarfa FC suspended from BOV National League I

Mtarfa FC have been suspended from the BOV National League 1 competition after failing to turn up for two league matches during the 2026/27 season.

The club was brought before the Malta Football Association Control, Discipline and Ethics Board to answer for several breaches of the competition regulations relating to its failure to attend these two matches.

The first case concerned the match between Mellieħa and Mtarfa FC, scheduled for 19 September 2026. The match was not played after Mtarfa FC failed to turn up.

The second case concerned the match between Mtarfa FC and Senglea Athletic, scheduled for 27 September 2026. This match was also not played due to Mtarfa FC’s failure to attend.

As both cases concerned matches in the same competition and Mtarfa FC failed to turn up for both fixtures, the Board applied Article 15(ii)(a) of the Competition Rules. This article provides that a team which fails to play two matches in the same league-based competition may be removed from the competition.

As a consequence, the Board ordered that Mtarfa FC be suspended from the BOV National League 1 and forfeit its entitlement to the sponsorship money related to this competition.
